Queering Astrology: Understanding Your Chart 101
Welcome to Queering Astrology, an inclusive introduction on using the stars to better understand ourselves and the world around us! You’ve probably had someone ask you what your sign is or seen a post on Instagram telling you which cat picture is a Gemini moon vs a Sagittarius rising. You may have even heard your friends talking about their “birth chart”. But what does that even mean? Where do you find your chart or figure out how to decipher it so you know which cat picture you are? And what the hell is a rising sign? All these questions, and more, will be answered in our Understanding Your Chart 101 class!
Understanding Your Chart 101 will teach you the foundational basics of astrology, a breakdown of the planets and the signs, and how to utilize astrological resources in order to have fun and gain insight while navigating your natal chart. With 8+ years of professional chart reading and astrology education experience, Amanda D is excited to share her knowledge and skills with you! From figuring out your Big Three to learning how what time you were born affects the placements in your chart, this class will help get you to a solid place to jump further into astrology exploration!
This 2 hour class will provide each attendee with a laminated copy of their natal chart (requires giving birth date, time, and location at the time of registration), a 1.5 hour interactive presentation, and 30 minutes of supervised research and discussion time to help answer questions hands-on!
PLEASE NOTE: Astrology charts require a person’s birth date, time, and location. We need to know your birth time as close to the minute as possible in order to provide you with an accurate copy of your chart (though getting a rough time within 30 minutes is usually good enough). You can get this information on your long form birth certificate, which you can order from your birth hospital. If you do not know your birth time we will put noon in when making your chart, but please know this means your chart will most likely not be 100% accurate. If you register after 8/16 or get tickets at the door we will not be able to make you a laminated astrology chart.
About the Educator:
Amanda D has been an avid astrology fan, practitioner, and researcher for 17 years. It all began in high school when she found the natal chart her parents had been gifted the day after she was born. Seeing the accuracy, she was inspired and awestruck by the power that the planets and the stars had on people and their lives. After 7 years of self-guided learning and reading the charts of her friends (and their significant others), she eventually connected with a witchy collective in Bloomington, Indiana. There she began learning from others and eventually started teaching classes and doing astrology chart readings in a professional capacity. Now she uses her knowledge to deep dive in therapy, info-dump on people, support her community, weather the storm of this political climate, and read her friends to filth.
Amanda believes that astrology is like a diary; a way to gain insight into the self and allowing a person to see where they’ve been, where they are, and where they’re able to go. She sees astrology as a tool that can open people up to a multitude of perspectives and vulnerabilities they can use in growth, healing, reflection, loving, acceptance, connection, and hope. She is glad she can share what she knows with anyone excited to learn!

HIGH POTENTIAL, NO PRESSURES
Our community thrives in a space where countless delightful interactions could happen, but none are obligated to occur. Think of it as “high possibility, low expectations.” Outside of our general requirements of respect, you are under no obligation to interact with anyone in any particular way. This makes our space ideal for new faces and seasoned community members alike.
HIGH POTENTIAL, NO PRESSURES
Our events aren’t the product of one person hosting a party for pay; they’re the result of a community coming together and creating something new. Everyone who attends is expected to co-create: money, time, energy, enthusiasm, work, intention, example, concern and/or awareness. Have ideas, games, art, music to share? Want to bring them to life with us?
A FOUNDATION OF TRUST
Our gatherings are magical because of trust. We fiercely protect each member’s privacy, encourage honest risk communication, and take diligent care of our shared environments. It’s our collective respect and integrity that fortify this safe space.
CLEAR AND PRESENT CONSENT
Upholding consent goes beyond preventing harm; it’s about affirming everyone’s freedom to fully and joyfully agree to their interactions. It’s through this affirmation that our spaces thrive with genuine, unreserved participation.
INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY
We’re committed to inclusivity. Our community is a tapestry of individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and social backgrounds, including all gender identities and expressions. We encourage everyone to engage with empathy and curiosity, always asking rather than assuming someone’s identity or preferences.
Our space is and always will be wheelchair accessible, with multiple spaces for varying sensory needs.
PLEASE NOTE:
No refunds will be given on ticket purchases. Address is provided to confirmed ticket holders after purchase. Wicked Eden is located on the south side of Columbus, approximately 10 minutes from downtown, and is one block away from a COTA bus stop.
